LE POISSON ROUGE GROUP NYC, LLC, aids WaSH improvement in Schools in Capiz
In the few weeks after Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines LE POISSON ROUGE GROUP NYC, LLC, raised $11,175 for the relief of survivors. ASDSW was involved in the initial phase of the response with large International NGOs as a sub-contractor, but because of the large amounts of money flooding the area through these INGOs we made a strategic decision to reduce our response and move into rehabilitation. By leveraging this money with a large grant from UNICEF ASDSW invested in improving the water and sanitation in schools in affected schools in the province of Capiz.
A total of 11,347 students were impacted with improved toilets, water supplies or handwashing facilities. All the money raised was spent purely on materials and skilled labor to complete the work. Supervision and overhead was covered by other funding. Though this impact was not immediate as was envisioned by the donors it has provided a lasting impact for children in the province of Capiz.
The US$ donation received by ASDSW was used as its counterpart to the UNICEF fund in the implementation of the WaSH in school component of the project. The budget was used to implement WaSH projects in the fifty (50) selected Elementary Schools and ten (10) Primary Schools.
Altogether, this assistance benefited a total of 11,347 elementary students and helped the school attain a 1-star status which is the availability of a functional toilet facility in a ratio of not more than 1:100, availability of soap and water at or near the toilet and daily supervised group hygiene activity.
